Dealer Spike web page URLs have several unique characteristics and can be configured in one of a few different ways. This article will run down how URLs for web pages are set up and how to configure them.
Full URL Format
The standard page URL system on Dealer Spike sites looks like this:
/default.asp?page=page-name-here
The page name goes in the URL after ?page=
. This version of the URL can’t be changed, but every page on the Dealer Spike platform can also be called via the second format:
Condensed URL format
The condensed version of a Dealer Spike page URL looks like this:
/text-goes-here--page-name-here
For these types of URLs the page name comes after the --
double dash symbol. The --
symbol stands in for default.asp?page=
from the other URL format. With this format any text put into the URL before the --
won't change what page ends up getting loaded in your browser, so it counts as purely cosmetic text that can be customized to increase the SEO value of the page or describe the page for visitors. If you wanted to create a link for your parts page that emphasized your most important manufacturers and locations for example, you could make a link like this: /honda-toyota-parts-and-accessories-louisville-kentucky--parts
.
The only part that actually matters for pulling up the page is –parts
, but Google and other search engines will interpret the other text in the URL and use it to prioritize your page differently when it appears in search results.
