Dealer Spike has implemented guidelines for third party partners who wish to add external scripts or code to dealer websites. Following these guidelines will ensure that dealer websites and their customers' data are protected and that website performance isn't adversely impacted. This article will list requirements and procedures third parties must adhere to get added to Dealer Spike websites.

Requirements for Script Implementation

All scripts must load with the "defer" attribute. Example:

If a Partner script loads or uses a popup or overlay, overlay content must not consume more than 5% of the visual field of the site prior to user engagement (clicking on the overlay) and must not impede interaction with key page elements.
Partner scripts must not replace or override core platform components (such as image viewers).
Partner scripts must not intercept or collect data from form submits that are not their own.
Partner scripts must respect Dealer Spike's data consent agreements.
Where possible, Partner scripts should respect the website's existing look and CSS styles.
Partner scripts using popups / modal display elements must show clear means of dismissing (i.e. close / cancel / back).
Partner scripts must not inhibit use of the browser’s back button (i.e. no history manipulation).
Any binding to the DOM outside of the defined data contract should be considered unstable and will break at our discretion.
Partner script DOM injection points must be identified by agreed-upon markers (typically classes).
Partner scripts must use callback functions for engagement and lead submission.
For performance, it is highly recommended that Partner scripts be served from (or leverage) a CDN.
The maximum payload size for Partner scripts is 2 MB.
Partner scripts must behave well and be fully usable in both desktop and mobile browser sizes.
Partner scripts must not intercept, redirect, proxy, or alter on-page elements and interactions beyond the script’s domain.
Libraries referenced by Partner scripts shall be updated no less frequently than once per quarter.
The Partner is responsible for the security and compliance requirements for any data collected & stored via Partner’s script (i.e. CCPA, GDPR, FTC Safeguards, etc.). This includes ADA compliance responsibility for the Partner script.
We reserve the right to disable or reject third party scripts for these and for any reason until the issues/concerns are resolved to our satisfaction.

Monitoring

Dealer Spike will monitor for issues such as:

Negative impact to page load time
Excessive use of CPU or memory
Access to data outside of script's scope
Failure to honor consent restrictions
Presence of widget implementations outside of the Certified Partner Program approved implementations
Expansion of tracking or behavior beyond reasonable limits based on the original intent of the partner implementation
Degradation of the performance of other partners' implementations
Collection of personally identifiable information (PII) or other sensitive data in unsafe ways or when unnecessary
