Configure Price Box

Price Box is a free feature that helps you helps you show pricing transparency on your website by giving you direct control over fees, labels, and price fields while displaying a single advertised total price and fee breakdown to customers.

This article will explain how it works and how to enable and customize it.

Enable Price Box

1. Start by navigating to Inventory > Price Box Settings in DS Admin.

   

2. Next click the bubble next to "Use standard price box styling and display options (disables all legacy price displays)" to enable Price Box.

   

3. Then you'll be taken to the Price Box settings page. From here you can customize the labels, tooltips, and disclosures that go along with your unit prices and see a preview of what the price block will look like on your vehicle list and detail pages.

How Price Box Works

• Price Box adds several new fee and discount-related fields to Inventory Manager.

  

• The old Price field has been renamed to Base Price. This is the price of the unit before any fees or discounts are added in. Currently this is also the price that will be sent to external inventory feeds.
• The Dealer Discounts field will be subtracted from the all-in Total Price calculation and appears in the breakdown.
• The Price Text field will add an optional message to the price block under the Total Price.
• The Freight / Delivery, Preparation / Setup, Dealer Administrative Fee, Upfitting / Customization, and Other Mandatory Fees fields will each add their values to the Total Price and appear in the breakdown.
• Blank discount and fee fields or fields with a value of 0 won't be included in the Total Price calculation or breakdown.

Customize Prices, Labels, Tooltips, and Disclosures

Price Box is configured from the Price Box Settings page. Get there from the DS Admin menu (Inventory > Price Box Settings) or by clicking the Go to Price Box Settings button in Inventory Manager.

• There are separate configuration settings for new and used inventory. Click the New Unit Settings and Used Unit Settings tabs at the top of the page to switch between them.

  

• Want to see how your price block would look with different prices and fees entered? Click the Edit Preview Data button at the top of the Live Preview section to the right to change which values are used in the example.
  • The price box preview will not include any scripts or styling added to your site's Price Box page.
• The Main Price Display section allows you to customize how the primary Total Price appears in your price block.
  • By default Price Box displays a Total Price that automatically combines base price with fees and discounts. Click the "Use existing Base Price (Renamed from Price)" bubble to just display the Base Price instead, similar to how pricing works without Price Box.
  • Change the Main Price Display Tooltip to customize the message that appears when customers hover over the ? icon next to the Total Price.
  • Change the Total Price Label to customize the text that appears above the Total Price value in the price block.
• The Disclosures section allows you to customize the fine print under the Total Price in the price block.
  • Enter new text in the Mandatory Dealer Fees Disclosure and Government Fees Disclosure fields to change the message that appears below the Total Price in the price block.
  • Click the toggles to the right of the Mandatory Dealer Fees Disclosure and Government Fees Disclosure fields to turn them on or off and add or remove them from the price block.

    

  • By default the disclosures will only appear on vehicle detail pages. Click the "Show on VLP and VDP" bubble to show the disclosures on list and detail pages.
• The Fee Breakdown section gives you options to change how fees are presented.
  • By default the breakdown of fees and discounts will only appear on vehicle detail pages. Click the "Show Breakdown -- VLP and VDP" bubble to show the breakdown on both list and detail pages. Click the "No Breakdown" bubble to remove the Breakdown from all pages (fees and discounts will still be applied to the Total Price).
  • Use the Edit Label fields under each fee to change how the fee will be listed in the Breakdown. This allows you to swap out the predefined fee types for new fields that match your unique requirements.
  • Put positive numbers into the Enter Default Value fields to set default values for each fee that will be automatically applied to any unit that doesn't have a manually entered fee value. This allows you to set up fees without having to enter them for every unit, as long as your fees are standardized across your inventory.
• The Price Labels section allows you to customize how the non-fee fields appear in the price block breakdown.
  • Change the text in the Edit Label fields to change how the different prices and discounts appear in the breakdown.
  • Click the toggle to the right of "Display Price Text" to add or remove the Price Text field from the price block. If enabled, this field allows you to add a custom text message next to the price for any unit.

    

• The Comparison & Savings section allows you to control whether a unit's MSRP or Dealer Retail fields will be displayed and compared to the Base Price. MSRP (official retail prices from our OEM inventory catalog) and Dealer Retail (manually entered retail price field in Inventory Manager) won't factor into the Total Price whether they're displayed or not.
  • By default MSRP and Dealer Retail aren't included in the price block. Click the "Calculate savings based on MSRP minus Base Price" bubble to show the difference between the MSRP field and Base Price below the Total Price in the price block.
    Click the "Calculate savings based on Dealer Retail minus Base Price" bubble to compare Base Price to the manually entered Dealer Retail field instead.
  • By default the MSRP and Dealer Retail fields aren't included in the Breakdown. Click the "MSRP displayed" bubble to show the unit's MSRP in the Breakdown, or click the "Dealer Retail Price displayed" bubble to show the Dealer Retail value instead.

Manage Price Box Fields in Inventory Manager

1. Navigate to Inventory > Inventory Manager
2. Select your desired Inventory unit.
3. Scroll to the Pricing and Dealer Fees section.
4. Enter values in any configured fields. The price box preview will not include any scripts or styling added to your site's Price Box page.
   1. You may use the Go to Price Box Settings to update universal Price Box fields if needed.
5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Unit as usual.

Disable Price Box

Price Box can be disabled and reverted to the old pricing system at any time.

1. Navigate to Inventory > Price Box Settings in DS Admin.
2. Click the "(Change)" link next to the "Standard Price Box Styling" tab at the top of the page.

   

3. Next click the "Use legacy price box styling and display options" bubble to disable Price Box.
